Kay Nielsen (1886 - 1957) was a Danish illustrator who was popular in early 20th century, during "the golden age of illustration" as well as Art Nouveau movement. He was influenced by Asian/Persian art and Aubrey Beardsley.
His most popular works included illustrating "East of the Sun and West of the Moon". "Fairy Tales Retold" and "Arabian Nights".

ReplyDeleteI had all of the David Larkin series of Penguin Press art books of old children's book illustrators that were released in the 1970's. Kay Neilsen was by far my sister and I's favorite. We tried to mimic his style in art class, back when they still had art classes in public schools.
